Fix wrong business details on your listings
Google’s and Apple’s assistants can use the details in their own listings. Fix wrong business details on Google first, then make every listing match.

We wrote this from each platform’s help pages on October 14 and 15, 2026.
Fix your listings in this order
- Write down your details once.
- Fix your Google Business Profile. Google says it can help you show up in its AI answers (Google’s AI search guide).
- Fix your details on Apple Maps, in Apple Business. Apple says these details show in Maps and Siri (Apple’s help on location details).
- Fix your Bing, Yelp and Facebook listings. Then send a free update to Data Axle, a company that shares business listings.
- Update your own website.
- Check again about a month after your last change.
Write down your details once
Pick one version of each detail. Use it everywhere, word for word.
- Name: as it appears on your sign. Google and Apple both ask for this (Google’s help on editing your profile, Apple’s help on location details).
- Address: the one customers use to find you.
- Phone: one main number that you answer.
- Hours: your usual week, plus any holiday changes coming up.
- Website: the page customers should land on.
- Category: the most specific one that fits, such as “Plumber”.
The worksheet has a box for each. To keep track as you fix each listing, use the listings checklist.
Your own website
Put the same details on your website as plain text. Use your home page or contact page. Change them on the same day as your listings.
Google may accept a customer’s suggested edit if your website agrees with it (Google’s help on updates to your profile). Apple asks for your hours and phone number to match your website (Apple’s help on location details).
Help with adding your details to your website’s code
Some website builders can also add your details as “structured data”. This is code that labels your details for search engines. Google says this isn’t required for generative AI search
, so you do not need it for AI answers (Google’s AI search guide).
When to check again
Write down the date of each change.
| Where | How long a change takes |
|---|---|
| Up to 30 days (Google’s help on profile edits) | |
| Yelp | Owner edits show right away (Yelp’s help on editing details) |
| Apple, most edits | No time given |
| Apple, if you challenge a name change it made | Up to 5 business days (Apple’s help on keeping details accurate) |
| We could not find a time |
Wait about a month after your last change. Then run the free check or the worksheet again. If an answer still shows an old detail, look at the sources it lists. They may show you the next listing to fix.
