Fix wrong details on Google Business Profile

How to claim your Google Business Profile, correct your hours, address and phone number, and deal with edits made by other people.

Published

We wrote this from Google’s help pages on October 14 and 15, 2026.

Your Google Business Profile is your listing on Google Search and Maps. It is free to claim (Google’s help on claiming a profile). Google says your profile can help you show up in its AI answers (Google’s AI search guide).

Gemini is Google’s AI assistant. For people who are signed in with the Keep Activity setting on, it answers questions about places from Google Maps (Gemini’s help on finding places).

Claim your Google Business Profile

  1. Search Google Maps for your business name and town.
  2. Choose “Claim this business”. If your business is not listed, go to business.google.com/add.
  3. Verify your business. Google decides which ways you can verify: phone or text, email, a video call, a recorded video or a postcard (Google’s help on verifying).

Google says it takes up to 5 business days to review your verification. A code sent by postcard stops working after 30 days (Google’s help on verifying).

Warning While you wait for the postcard, do not change your name, address or category.

If someone else already manages your profile, choose “Request access”. They have 3 days to reply (Google’s help on requesting access).

Correct your details

  1. Sign in and find your business on Google Search.
  2. Choose “Edit profile”.
  3. Check each detail against your list (Google’s help on editing your profile).

Google says edits usually take up to 10 minutes to review, but sometimes up to 30 days (Google’s help on profile edits).

Set holiday hours

In “Edit profile”, open Hours, then “Special hours”. Special hours only show on your profile if your hours are set to “Open with main hours”. Use them for changes of 6 days in a row or fewer. For a longer closure, Google says to mark your business “Temporarily closed” (Google’s help on special hours).

When other people change your profile

Customers can suggest edits in Google Maps (Google’s help on editing places in Maps). Google also updates profiles from other sources. For some suggested edits, Google gives you 4 days to accept or reject them (Google’s help on updates to your profile). If you do not reply, Google may publish the change when other public information supports it, such as your website. So keep the details on your website up to date.
